PRACTICAL RECALL REVIEW

A product recall review checklist for retailers

A potential match needs a decision grounded in the original notice and the stock in front of you. Use this checklist to organize that review at each relevant store. Print this page if a paper checklist works better at the shelf.

1. Open the original notice

Read the agency-hosted notice linked from the match. Check which products and identifying details it names, what the concern is, and what action it describes. Use the source's instructions rather than relying on a shortened email or a product name alone.

Notice details can be revised. Keep the link and record when you reviewed it so you can revisit the source if the information changes.

2. Check the product at each relevant location

Compare brand, variant, size and any UPC, model, lot, serial or date information supplied in the notice. Check relevant shelf and storage stock. If those details are missing from the catalog, inspect the package or your own receiving records.

  • Which store and product did you inspect?
  • Which identifiers in the notice did you compare?
  • Did the physical stock meet the notice's stated conditions?
  • What information is still missing from the review?

3. Decide and act in your store

When the stock is affected, follow the original notice's instructions, including removing affected items from sale where directed. RecallDash does not change your POS, remove stock or contact anyone on your behalf.

In RecallDash, confirm or dismiss the potential match and record that you checked the shelf. Use a dismissal reason when it helps explain the decision. If you need another look, reopen the review; a previous decision does not replace checking a changed notice.

4. Preserve the review and follow-up

Keep the notice reference, the product and identifiers checked, the location, the decision and the action taken. Preserve supporting package or receiving evidence in your own records. Review relevant stock again when the notice or available information changes.

The audit view provides the recorded history, with CSV and print options. Check whether an export is complete: a long record can be marked as partial. This checklist organizes store review; it does not replace the original notice or professional advice for your circumstances.
