How to check your store's products for recalls

1. Gather the product details you can verify

Use your catalog as a starting list. Retain the brand, full product name, variant, package size, SKU and UPC where available. For equipment, keep the model information. A short till label or internal SKU may not be the name used in an agency notice.

2. Choose the relevant official sources

Check FDA food enforcement for food and supplements, FDA drug enforcement for medicines, USDA FSIS for the meat/poultry/egg products it regulates, and CPSC for consumer products. For child restraints, tires and vehicle equipment, consult NHTSA.

RecallDash monitors these five feeds within its published coverage. Feed publication and historical limits matter: an enforcement report may appear later than a company announcement, and an unavailable source cannot establish that no recall exists.

3. Compare the notice with the shelf

Open the original notice and compare its identifying details with the product and package. A name resemblance needs review; a matching barcode still does not settle every lot, date or model condition in a notice.

• Brand, product name, variant and size
• UPC or other product code when the notice supplies one
• Lot, best-by, production date, model or serial details
• Distribution information and the notice's current instructions

4. Keep the result tied to a source and time

Record what you checked, the source notice and when the review happened. Repeat the review when relevant stock or notice details change. No match describes the check performed; it does not establish that a product is unaffected.
